Hi!

I'm Steve Handy, a minister with Canada Life Church (CLC) and the CLC rep for Thunder Bay, Ontario. I've created Truth on the Go! as a way to support young men as they explore Christian faith and the Bible. Maybe you want to level up your personal relationship with God and Jesus. Or perhaps you're testing the waters to see if that connection with the Divine is really for you. Whatever the case, my sincere hope is that you'll find the resources available through this (developing!) website helpful. Feel free to browse, join, and connect as you're inspired. Talk soon!

Steve's Story

Faith didn't come naturally to me. Sure, I went to a Catholic School until Grade 4. (It was across the street.) And sure, my grandparents all attended church (but they lived 1200 km away). Still, I just kinda believed, spurred by a few interesting conversations, without attending church or paying too much attention in any serious way...until university.

It was in university that I began to proudly proclaim that God did NOT exist. How could He, given all the injustice, sadness and violence in the world, including among people who were closest to me? I would certainly not follow a God such as this, I vowed. Science holds the complete truth, and there is nothing more.

But after a few years, there came this funny sort of doubt. Things would happen that I couldn't explain rationally. I engaged with people of other spiritual traditions, and my curiosity grew. I experienced things that shocked me, things beyond what I would consider scientifically reasonable. And so I began to search in earnest for “the divine”, so long as it didn’t involve the Bible. Anything but the Bible.

You may have heard that God works through circumstances. And so it was that, when I was most desperate and most alone and with the fewest options left, He offered me the opportunity of a lifetime—learn some Bible studies.

And in doing so, He saved my life.

I was already in my early 30s. I had already lived so long without being aware of His presence...and digging a deeper and deeper hole for myself. For young guys, our late teens and 20s are so valuable, so formative. If I had done them with God, sure I’d have still made mistakes and suffered at times. But looking back I know that having His Word and guidance front and center would have made a world of difference.

My hope is that, whether through Truth on the Go! or not, you will grab the opportunity to know God in Spirit and in truth. May you live with the joy, love, and direction that I refused during such an important time, and may you make the most of this wonderful life you've been given.
